This Holiday was booked last minute, let me just say it was a Spontaneous trip.
I booked my flight through Transavia and my Hotel through Booking.com. It wasn’t the cheapest flight but it was totally worth it. I flew from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Palma de Mallorca Airport. I landed at 21:00 PM in Palma and took a Taxi to my hotel (which I booked in advance).
There are Busses at the Airport, to take you to your hotel a single busticket costs 1.5o Euro. There are also Taxi’s available but the going rate for each Taxi is different depending on how far your hotel is from the Airport. It is much easier to book a Taxi in advance.
I stayed in Hotel Costa Mediterráneo in El Arenal. The Hotel was not the most luxuries place, but it was clean and the staff was really helpful. I would recommend the Hotel because it is close to the beach, most of the restaurants, souvenir shops, and excursions pick up points. The only downside is, it is not close to Palma City known as the Capital of Mallorca.
Day 1
I started my morning figuring out how to get to the beach. I ended up at the small beach next to the Harbour (Club Nautic). There were only a few people, and it didn’t exactly look like a beach. I asked for direction to the main beach. It wasn’t a long walk at all. Platja De Palma is Mallorca’s Blue Flag beach. I was more blown away by the colors of the sea than the beach itself.
For the whole day I was out and about, but mostly on the beach soaking up the sun. The atmosphere on the beach was amazing, people buzzing, children laughing and swimming. It is the perfect place for a family vacation. The water was crystal clear, but it was freezing cold. The first day I didn’t do much. It was such a relaxed day, too relaxed actually.
After the day on the beach, it was time for Dinner. There is a Bar & Restaurant around the corner from the Hotel it is called Sa Foganya. The food was so good. I would definitely recommend it.
Day 2
Day 2 had an earlier start and was similar to Day 1. Except I went to the other Side of the Beach. There is a Promenade along the beach and it stretches to Palam City. I walked a bit further down the Promenade and found a spot on the beach. Most of the day I had a swim and relaxed on the beach.
After soaking up the sun, we walked along the promenade and decided to go grab a bite at Burger King. The rest of Day 2 was pretty much relaxing.
Day 3
Day 3 started early. It was a bit cold outside while we waited for the excursion bus. This was yet another Spontaneous trip. The bus picked us up and a few other people.
At Palam Port, we hopped on a Boat the Blue Delphine (link to the excursion I went on).
Off we went to Palma port coasting in the direction to the Cliffs near the Lighthouse in CalaFiguera, known as a wild part of the island. Once we arrived at Cala Figuera we anchored and had a swim. Despite the freezing water, I had a blast.
After the swim in CalaFiguera, we headed toward Portals Vells beach. The color of the water and the Cliffs surrounding this area was breathtaking. I have never seen something so spectacular. It is difficult to describe it in words.
We had an hour of free time on the beach. The crew served us lunch consisting of Paella and typical ensaimada from Mallorca. After lunch, we enjoyed “Paco and his guitar show”. Paco entertained us with famous Spanish songs.
The boat cruise was 6 hours long and probably one of the best excursions I ever did.
Day 4 and 5
I was so tired. I slept in until 10 am and went to the beach for a few hours. The beach and restaurants was jam packed on Day 4 and 5 (Easter holiday). Day 5 we went out and walked along the promenade. I couldn’t resist the smell of the Crepés. The sweet smell of Nutella follows your nose all along the promenade.
I tried taking a photo of the Crepé but laughed too much to get the camera to focus. Crepés are so delicious.
We went for dinner and cocktails at the Istambul Restaurant on the beach front close to El Arenal. Good food, cocktails, and good services according to Spanish standards 🙂
Day 6
The Day started early. We left the hotel at 7:30 am, to hike up Sa Fornas. Breathtaking view. The hike is quite hidden, but there are a lot of people and even bike riders that follow the hiking trail (Cap Blanc)
Afterward, I went to the beach. On the beach, you can buy a beach chair for a day. Clearly, I didn’t know that. Me and Mom saw people laying on the chairs, so I told my mom “We can probably lay on the Chairs, no one seems to pay for it” With my luck 30 minutes later a guy chased us off because we didn’t pay. Whoa, it is really expensive for a beach chair I am not kidding. Anyway, we shook the “quilt” off and stayed on the beach for another hour.
After an hour I called it quits my shoulders burned so badly. It was windy so one couldn’t feel the heat of the sun on your skin.
We decided to go souvenir hunting. We probably could’ve walked to Palma City, but turned around when we realized we have walked too far. The way back to the hotel felt like an eternity especially when your shoulders are on fire. The bonus was that I bought myself a genuine leather backpack made in Spain.
Day 7
I woke up at 7:00 am and decided to start packing. If I hadn’t start packing I never would’ve left Mallorca (not that it would bother me). This day was extra beautiful the sky was clear and the water was all kinds of blue.
Even the weather was perfect no winds, not even a breeze. With a sore heart, I didn’t want to leave the beautiful place. It was one of the most fun and spectacular vacations of my life, oh and last minute. Every second was worth it. One day I would definitely go back, no doubt. Spontaneous moments are the most exciting.
I wish I could’ve documented every second, with a video camera.
A few tips:
Just be aware in Mallorca, there are a lot of people that want to sell sunglasses and hats to tourists. On the beaches, there are women who ask people if they want massages literally every 10 minutes. Oh, and just remember the beach chairs are not for free ;). Luckily we were not the only tourists who thought so.
I hoped you enjoyed reading all about my vacation. Adiós till next time.
xoxo
