Texel island

Texel Island (pronounced ‘Tessel’) is the largest of the Wadden Islands. White-sand beaches, Sun-dappled countryside and White fluffy sheep everywhere. For a small island Texel certainly packs a punch. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with this beautiful island.

There are only four important step to take when you are in Texel.

Step 1 Rent a bike

Step 2 Explore the Island

Step 3 Drink Texel Beer

Step 4 Drink Liefmans

This Island is not only beautiful, but there is also so much to do and to see. I completely fell in love with the sunsets. My favorite part of a day in Texel is to walk on the beach and witness the golden sunset.

My favorite towns to visit is Den Burg and De Koog. De Koog is the best town for accommodation and everything you need for a perfect day on the beach: a stunning sandy beach, lovely pavilions for a bite to eat and drink. The night life in De Koog offers a warm and inviting vibe. A cozy dinner followed by a visit to the pub, restaurant or a terrace with views of the nightlife crowd. The restaurant and pub choices in De Koog are endless. With all the pubs and restaurants to choose from, this town also offers the cutest little shops. The restaurant that I have enjoyed the most was the Talk of the Town Mexican restaurant. This town offers the best of both worlds.

Den Burg is also a great town to visit. In summer the town blooms with travelers. There are endless shops and restaurants to choose from. Don’t get me started on their arts&crafts shop and their famous boots shop. With the hustle and bustle in the summertime, this town is a perfect place to sit down and have lunch with good folks, and also remember the ice cream afterward. Do yourself a favor a visit the Mantje’s lifestyle store whenever you find yourself in Den Burg. Den Burg is a town that has to be a traveler’s first stop on the island.

Bike Travels:

My first visit to the Island was in Mid Summer. Me and two of my friends rented bikes at the bike rental near the Ferryport. From the Ferryport, we rode to Den Burg and from Den Burg we rode to De Koog. The distance is approx. 12 km. Despite the hot sun boiling down on us, the sight seeing made the 12 km bike ride worth it.

The second time I went to Texel was with a group of family friends. We hopped off the Ferry and took the bus to De Koog. It was not quite a warm weekend but also not too cold. Saturday we went to De Koog bike rentals and off we went to Den Burg. From De Koog to Den Burg it is 7km it took us approx. 23 minutes to get to Den Burg.

After a lovely brunch in Den Burg we were off to Cockstad Vuurtoring-weg (End of the Island).  Instead of riding through the town we decided to ride along the coast. We ate some lunch and had Liefmans before we headed back to De Koog.
